  உண்ணத்தக்கவற்றை உண்ணாமல் தவம் செய்பவர் பெரியர்; பிறர் தம்மை நோக்கிச் சொல்லும் கடுஞ்சொற்களைப் பொறுத்துக் கொள்பவர் அத்தவம் செய்பவரைவிடப் பெரியர்.

  Though ‘great’ we deem the men that fast and suffer pain,
  Who others’ bitter words endure, the foremost place obtain.
• Meaning
  Those who endure abstinence from food are great, next to those who endure the uncourteous speech
  of others.
